Summer Series Week 7 - 6 Mile Handicap

It’s the 6 mile handicap run! The faster you are, the later you will begin. Try to catch the person ahead of you, but don’t let the person behind catch you! Handicaps will be posted based on previous paces of other Summer Series events. First-time Summer Series participants will have “estimated” handicaps based on your 5k time.

Handicap sheet explained: The above sheet has your handicap (the time you begin that is displayed on the race clock). This time will either be red or green. We also have an estimated start time. At 6:30pm, we will advance the clock to 30 minutes and begin.

Example: Geri Morris has a handicap of 40:20. She will begin when the clock reads “40:20.” She will start at approximately 6:40:20pm.

If your handicap is less than 30 minutes, you will begin at 6:30pm (we will adjust your final time to reflect your true handicap time). Example: Jim White has a handicap of 28:32 but will begin at 6:30pm when the clock reads 30 minutes.

New Runners: You can also use this sheet to find an estimated 5k from someone else. Example: Let’s say you think it takes you around 27 minutes to run a 5k. You can look at the chart and see that Kathryn Baumann has a 44:20 handicap for that time. You would start when the clock reads 44:20 (around 6:44pm). You will need to write what time you are choosing as your handicap.

Q: Why are you advancing the clock 30 minutes?

A: Historically, most of the slower runners/walkers who have a smaller handicap do not attend this week. We like to skip ahead to minimize waiting around.

Q: I have a handicap, but can I start at a different time and run with a friend?

A: No, please start at the time provided.
